Biffle’s News You Can Use – Why Spay and Neuter Your Pets?

Pet overpopulation is a serious problem across the country. There are too many pets and not enough homes. Help end pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering your pets. It’s good for your pet and your family in many ways:

1. Spaying/neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives by eliminating or reducing the incidence of a number of health problems that can be very difficult and/or expensive to treat.

2. It's better to spay your female pet before she goes into heat for the first time. This reduces the risk of breast cancer and eliminates the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer in your dog.

3. Neutered males will not develop testicular cancer and their risk for developing prostate cancer is greatly reduced.

4. Spayed/neutered pets are, typically, better behaved and more calm and affectionate than those that are not spayed/neutered.

5. Male cats are less likely to spray urine and mark their territory, especially if neutered prior to developing this habit.

6. Spaying a dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle, thereby eliminating regular bleeding, and the incessant crying and nervous behavior that often accompanies the heat cycle.

7. Neutering decreases and animal's desire to escape and wander the neighborhood in search of a mate. This decreases the risk of fights, death caused by getting hit by cars, and lost or stolen pets.

8. Spaying keeps unwelcome male animals away

Shelter Spotlight – Paws and Prayers, Inc.
Paws and Prayers is a Northeast Ohio based animal rescue group whose primary mission is to rescue, care for, and find loving homes for homeless cats and dogs. Their secondary goal is to make sure all of these animals are spayed or neutered.

Financial support for the foundation comes from a variety of sources including individual contributions, NASCAR Pets calendars, and the sale of various racing and other sports memorabilia. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded funding to more than 300 animal welfare groups across the county.
